I recall one Mai/Katara piece, but I think that's it for femslash. Kind of surprising, now that I think about it.
I guess you just haven't been reading the right Bad Zutara. I'll admit, the Mai/Haru solution kind of died once everyone and Ty Lee stopped doing alternate Season 3 stuff, and Mai/Jet seems to be on the rise now that people are putting more thought into Mai's future.
Eh, I've never really had bile fascination with bad fanfics. I usually stop reading after a chapter or two, or just skip to the end. The closest I'll get is to go through the reviews for bad fics and search for the (if any exist) nuanced critiques. There's usually only one or two even for popular (but terrible) shipping fics by reviewers who make an effort, and the link to the reviewer's account can lead to a jackpot of a Favorites list.
Not a bad system. Me, I need *something* to do on my lunch hour, and since there's no way to transfer anything I type at work to my home computer, I read fanfic. If nothing good is available, I read amusing bad stuff.
With Mai/Jet, I get that they look good together... but I figure they'd try to kill each other after they slept together. Jet because he'd be consumed with self-loathing for sleeping with a Fire Nation woman, Mai because the hell she's going to let some wheat-stalk chomping peasant get the drop on her.
I can buy that scenario. :D I usually dislike it because Jet is portrayed as a typical teenage lecher, and Mai as the "I want him but I can't admit it!" archetype so popular in anime/manga. I'm just waiting for the fic that will sell me on it by actually exploring their characters and dynamic.
