Title: Purity of Character
Summary: I believe this was supposed to be a deconstruction of all those fanfics where Hermione turns about to be a Pure Blood, thus explaining her talent... and spotlighting some fans' misunderstanding of what Rowling was trying to say about racism with the whole Pure Blood/Half-Blood/Muggleborn system.

After seven months, I managed to overcome my writer's block on Doctor Who and the Defence Against the Dark Arts. You can find the latest chapter here.

Doctor Who and the Defence Against the Dark Arts has been nominated for a Children of Time Award (CoTA) in the "Work in Progress" category! Hurrraaaay!

I'll probably lose to one of the rival BSDM-themed fics in my category but, hey, it's an honor to be nominated.

To celebrate, however, I've upload the revised version I mentioned a few blog posts back. See, I rarely re-read my own fics mostly because 1) I wrote them so I already know pretty well what shit went down, and 2) because I only ever see bad writing and errors. Normally, I'd have left DADA alone, but I realized that I needed to change the overall story once I realized I'd been missing a key Harry Potter plot point. Namely, the War. And if there's one thing Harry Potter and the Doctor have in common (aside from being British cultural icons) it's that they both fought in a war and were damaged by it. Blame the crew at PotterficWeekly for making me think critically about the post-DH world. So I've made some slight revisions to the existing 5 chapters of the story, mostly dealing with clunky description and rewriting bits of dialogue for better flow, to set up this plot thread.

Chapter 6 is still a work in progress and will be posted when it's done.

BUT! You can find a sneak peek of the next Doctor Who and the Defence Against the Dark Arts chapter below the cut.

So I've been revising/rewriting "Doctor Who and the Defense Against the Dark Arts" (more on that tomorrow-ish) and I'm having a debate with myself on the issue of formatting. I'm think about using double spacing after each sentence in this fic.

I've attached two version of the same scene; the first with double spacing, the second without.

What do y'all think is the better version?

v1

"Aw?  Really?  Because I've been told my looks are very boyish."

Suddenly there was a great commotion at the fireplace.  With a gout of emerald flame and grey soot, an adult figure burst into existence, screaming.  The figure, whom Hermione soon made out to be an adult woman with red hair, shook herself off dazedly, all the while looking like she was about to be sick.  "Bloody hell," she muttered, "it wasn't like that in the books."

"You should have read closer," said Rowling.  "After all, I wa—"

SLAP!!

"Ow!"

"You stupid Martian!" snapped the soot-stained redhead.  "I could have been turned inside out!  Why didn't you tell me that beforehand?!  I would have taken the bloody train instead!"

Without missing a beat, Professor Rowling turned to the assembled group and said, "May I introduce my lovely wife Donna Noble."

"You're sleeping on the floor tonight, Mister!  And don't think I'm sparing you a blanket!"

"Lovely, isn't she?"

For future reference, updates to my Harry Potter / Doctor Who crossover can be found at the following sites:

A Teaspoon and an Open Mind

Fanfiction.net

The story is cross-posted at FFnet as "Harry Potter and the Orders of Merlin" and "Doctor Who and the Defense Against the Dark Arts".

Did I mention that this is a crossover?

Chapter 02 )

Yes, I'm starting another long-form fanfic series. It'll be longer than "Ineffable Crossover" but a fair length shorter than "Taking Sights". It's also my first long-form Harry Potter fanfic. I suppose I just need to do a fanfic in a series that didn't consist of introverted, super-depressed people (I love you, Evangelion, but sometimes....).

Oh, and you could charitably say Chapter 1 starts with Character Death. Mwa ha hah ha hah ha ha ha ha!

Enjoy.

I present to you the (rough draft-y) first crossover between Harry Potter and Spooks.

And no, I am not on drugs.
