Dwelling of the Duels & Assorted Goodies
Feb. 18th, 2009 04:36 pmNew chapter of Taking Sights is up, though I'm sure if you care you already know.
Dwelling of the Duels has been a long-time favorite website of mine. They host a monthly video game music remixing competition and there's always great stuff to be found. Because the site's just been linked by Game Informer magazine, the duo that runs the site has posted a list of their favorite melodies from the last 2+ years of competition. Give it a shot and download an MP3 or two.
I'm an alternative history nut but I've recently found two very interesting threads. Holding Out for a Hero: Gustav Stresemann Survives, which follows a post-WWI Germany that avoids Nazism but still works towards its own Eastern European economic hemogany. The other is called A World of Laughter, A World of Tears wherein Walt Disney becomes President of the United States in 1952, resulting in a pro-Segregationist anti-Israeli quasi-fascist America where Mickey Mouse Club brigades wage a culture war on anything deemed indecent. Both these stories are made of win. If you're even vaguely interested in history, I'd check them out. The Disney one is the much more casual read of the two, as Stressmann gets very into the details of Europe's 1920s/30s post-WWI socio-economic climate.
The latest and greatest fanfic to cross my radar is Reunions Are a Bitch, a nBSG/SG-1 crossover. It, like A Clash of Federations, manages to avoid the typical flaw of sci-fi TV crossovers -- namely, the technology-wank curbstomping of one side by the other.
Other than that, I've been chipping away at various projects. I'm having a possible new fanfic series beta'ed at the moment. The next chapter of Taking Sights is at least a month away. The next chapter of The Ineffable Crossover has somehow become a crossover between Death Note, Pulp Fiction, Avenue Q, Grand Theft Auto, and Fallout. It's beginning to resemble all those Eyric fanfics that I dispise, except with no pretense to quality.
