Ganked from [info]attackfish , who took it from [info]rabidchild67 and [info]coffeethyme4me, who themselves took it from [info]hoosierbitch .

The first five people to comment on this post get to request that I write a drabble/ficlet of any character/pairing of their choosing in either the Avatar: the Last Airbender or My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fandoms, except for anything involving Princess Yue. However, if you request in one of my established AUs, pease keep to the parings in that universe. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. (sketch and drawble memes can be substituted for writing memes, though!)

If you want to play the meme but NOT repost and play on your own LJ, you can absolutely still make a request, but please make a note to that effect in your comment so that I can prioritize/encourage the folks playing along at home. And you know, request fics on their memes XD.

Closed at ranchoth, although I still owe clockworkchaos a slot from last time, so feel free to prompt me, CWC.

Katara/Toph - There is earth at the bottom of the sea.

Katara/Toph; Old World Blues [1/1]

Date: 2011-08-11 11:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavanyasix.livejournal.com
Toph didn't feed coal into Silap Inua's boilers anymore, they had Professor Zei's manservant for that, but she still preferred to stick to the engine room. Coal was the closest earth you could find on an airship, especially one crossing an ocean. So when Sokka came to fetch her, there was only one place to check.

"You gotta see this!" he gushed from the doorway.

"That's gonna be kinda difficult, Boss."

"...oh!" Sokka snapped his fingers. "Blind."

"Toph!" She heard a clamor of footsteps. Again, Katara cried out, "Toph! You need to see this! It's amazing!"

Haughtily, Sokka said, "She's blind, sis. Could you be any less considerate, asking a question like that?"

"So we'll be her eyes. How often do you get to see a lost city, blind or not?"

A lost city actually sounded pretty cool, and Katara's soft arm felt nice to hold on deck. Tossing a "See ya" to the professor's manservant, Long Feng, she headed up to the deck with the siblings. Sokka found a clue and drifted back to the captain's wheel.

The air was thin and cold. Katara guided her off the hand-railing to the prow, and she was man enough to admit that she huddled so close to the waterbender for reasons other than her being stacked. If they hit turbulence and Toph fell over the edge, there was nothing stopping her from splattering somewhere far below.

Just thinking about it made her nauseous. Sokka had bought some gliders from apostate airbenders in case they needed to abandon ship mid-flight, but she'd sooner trust in the Abominable Rockman or in firebenders that weren't bugfuck crazy tribals.

Toph clenched the thin railing, felt it vibrate in sympathy with the boilers and whirling screw.

"So what am I 'seeing'?"

Katara pressed against her. "There's earth at the bottom of the sea. It was South Chung-Ling in the Old World. You can see it, just beneath the ocean's skin."

"So?" There was tons of earth under the sea, put there almost a century ago by the Avatar. People said there had been a whole country out here in the western sea. The Fire Nation, they used to call it, back before Aang the Warbender had played skipped stones using the archipelago. "If anyone can see it, then it's probably all picked over already. There won't be anything for us to sell."

"I'm not talking about lost technology. It's just pretty, all those shades of blue and green."

"Want to know what else is pretty? The stuff I found between my toes. That was pretty... pretty slimy."

Katara patted her on the shoulder. "I think that's enough sharing for today."

Despite that proclamation, Toph didn't let go of the waterbender's arm, Katara didn't take it back, and so they stood there for a while, huddled against the rail.

Love! Specifically, I love Sokka turning right around and scolding Katara for asking such an insensitive question, and Toph being utterly unimpressed with Avatarworld Atlantis.

Also, Haha, Long Feng shoveling coal!

Totally awesome, but I feel the title is slightly false advertising, as this did not, in fact, feature a character having their brain (and other organs) stolen and going on a quest to get them back.

The title and worldbuilding was taken from an outline I wrote after getting drunk on New Vegas DLC. Basically, the idea was that Aang never runs away and eventually unleash His Wrath upon the Fire Nation. In the process, a lot of technology and knowledge is lost. A century later, people brave the ruins of the Fire Nation, exploring uncharted waters and cannibalistic firebender tribes, to locate tech to sell.

Professor Zei came to Sokka because of his newly invented airship. Zei had a map to a lost city of technology, a research lab located deep inside the desert on what was now an uncharted island.

Aang/Suki

And if filled, I will be posting this on my journal, but limiting it to drabbles (maybe a ceiling of 200 words). I can write those during my lunch hour without eating into my BigBang time. None of my usual 2k-word explorations.

Aang/Suki; Tats

A/N: This ended up being less shippy than I intended starting off. Sorry.

Suki offered her arm reluctantly. Aang felt the weight of her eyes, studying his reaction as he gently took her wrist and used his free hand to probe the serial number tattooed across her inner forearm. The warrior's breathing grew shallow, silent. Aang became very conscious of the wireless humming in the next room, Radio Free Omashu barely audible through the static of the Firelord's jamming, and past that the faint hushing of Ember Island's surf.

Wetting his lips, he reach for a liquor bottle on the floor beside the couch Suki was reclined on. He splashed it over her forearm, sterilizing the skin. There was a towel spread out to catch any overrun. That done, he washed his hands in a pre-prepared bowl of the pungent stuff.

Aang had planned everything out ahead of time, working off memories of his own tattooing and the lessons involved with it. Monk Gyatso had let him sit in silently on a few sessions of another monk. It was really simple stuff, even if it wasn't easy on anyone invol--

Wait. The tattooist used to talk through this.

"No second thoughts?" he blurted. Then swiftly added, "On your design?" The Sea Rose vine would cover up the number code nicely.

"No."

"You sure?"

"Yes," she said, tone again short and clipped.

"Did... did I say something wrong?"

Suki took a breath. She exhaled. "No. I just... don't..."

Aang waited.

Brow creased, she finished, quietly, "I don't like those things. Needles."

"Really? Ha ha. Wow. I guess you could use some of this, huh?" Aang waggled the bottle at her.

Suki glared at him.

"Because tattooing uses... lots of, y'know..."

"Yes. I know."

Aang cringed.

Belatedly, her lips pressed together in a thin line. Her eyes trailed across his exposed arms, neck, forehead. "Although I suppose you had it worse than me."

He put on a smile for her. "It wasn't that bad. I just slept on my stomach a couple days and didn't move much."

Suki shuddered.

"Soooo I think that's enough talking," said Aang.

"Give me the bottle."

Heh, Aang never does well when's self-conscious. I imagine he and Suki are about to become rather close, between the liquor and sharing in Suki's needle-based trauma. (I'm rather afraid of needles myself. If I got a tattoo, I'd have to get another tat right after to commemorate surviving the first.

Thanks!

FMB Toph - Her first day at Ba Sing Se during Iroh's siege.

I'm sorry to say I won't be posting this on my journal primarily because I don't have the time or the following to make such a venture work.

Alright, I have another somewhat related request:

FMB Toph - Execution of soldiers for cowardice

FMB!Toph; Human Resources

Date: 2011-08-12 11:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavanyasix.livejournal.com
The Fire Nation executed its deserters with a noose and a strong tree limb. It was an insult that way, Toph had learned, because it left the whole body to rot. Their ashes would never be taken home to the land of their forefathers.

The Earth Kingdom, in contrast, didn't execute its deserters because it had none. There was no desertion in Ba Sing Se. If anyone with the least bit of brains felt unenthusiastic about the round-the-clock bombardments or about hinting the Yu Yan guerillas stalking the farmlands, they kept such doubts to themselves. Otherwise they earned themselves leave courtesy of the Earth King and, after a little R&R Oma knows where, they came back with a fixed smile and no unpatriotic doubts.

If she ever ran, Toph decided to never stop. They couldn't catch her that way.

Ty Lee/Pinkie Pie. :D

Okay, okay, failing that, howsabout...the Mechanist, and the female guard from "The Boiling Rock"?

(But I regret to say that I'm unable to repost play the meme myself--my plate's already pretty full with my own freaky crossover projects, sadly. :( )

I have it.

I want this.

I don't really care about it as a pairing. But what I'd really like is a piece that makes them feel like their own AU characters.

I'm only allowed to ask for a character/pairing, but bonus points for elaborating on what the other main cast is like here.
