We Play Global Thermonuclear War So You Don't Have To
I've decided to dive into a new project, one that will take place this summer once I've done some trial runs and have a crapload of more free time. Yes, it's my first non-fanfic project for the internet, but I've enjoyed the art form so I thought I'd give it a whirl.
What kind of project is this? Well, take a look at the teaser poster below the cut:
.
Introversion Software presents its third title, DEFCON, a stunning online multiplayer simulation of global thermonuclear war.
You play the role of a military Commander hidden deep within an Underground bunker. Your mission - to successfully exterminate your enemy's civilian population whilst disabling their ability to attack your own. Start by launching your battleships, subs and bombers in order to decimate your opponent's defences. Scramble together your alliances but remember only one can stand victorious.
Prepare your pre-emptive strike before one of your supposed allies gets the same idea. Choose the perfect moment for betrayal, obliterating your opponents with an apocalyptic thermonuclear barrage, but get it wrong and their devastating counter attack will bring you to your knees!
Needless to say, this will probably be the most abso-fucking-lutely depressing thing I will ever write.
SO!! Since this is a Let's Play deal, that means there will be audience participation. Since DEFCON is a fairly fast game, I won't be able to ask advice for each update, so all the reader input will have to come during the set-up stage (where do I base my missiles, radar, fleets, etc.). BUT... I can think of one question to pose off the top of my head:
1. Who should my enemy be? Russia? Europe? South America? The dreaded Afro-Asia overloads? The whole goddamned world? YOU DECIDE!
I'm planning to play as the Americans, simply because I think I can run well with the Cold Warrior mindset of the 'nuclear war commander' character.
So that's my summer project. I'm going to end the world for the sake of Ma, Pa, and apple pie.
